After working in the NHS through the pandemic, I knew I wanted my next step to be both purposeful and progressive. I was looking for a role where I could continue supporting national security while growing professionally in a new environment.
I joined BAE Systems as a Group Leader - Contracts on TyTAN ((Typhoon Total Availability eNterprise), - improving aircraft availability and reducing the costs of operating the fleet - advancing operations that help protect the UK and its allies. It felt like a full-circle moment - I had a picture of the aircraft on my bedroom wall as a child and now I was contributing to the teams that sustain its readiness.
From day one, I felt supported. I worked closely with integrated teams and our customer, learning from experienced colleagues who encouraged openness, curiosity and shared problem-solving. That collaborative culture gave me the confidence to explore new opportunities and take on new responsibilities.
I went on to participate in a ‘taster’ placement in KSA, this experience really broadened both my professional perspective and my understanding of the Kingdom. Spending time in Riyadh, I experienced first-hand the warmth, ambition and strong sense of community among Saudi Nationals and expatriates working together to support sovereign defence capability. I found it a very welcoming and forward-looking environment - very different from some of the misconceptions you often hear.
Relocating to Saudi Arabia has allowed me to grow in confidence, contribute to meaningful work and be part of a supportive, globally connected team delivering real impact.JohnCommercial Manager, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Following the placement, I knew this was where I wanted to build the next stage of my career. The transition was carefully supported and I was able to work alongside the KSA team in the UK before relocating, which helped me understand how both regions collaborate to achieve shared outcomes.
I’m now part of the Salam Commercial team, supporting contract delivery and future activity. The environment is fast paced, but what stands out is the teamwork. We share knowledge, support one another and work collectively to strengthen long-term capability. Contributing to Vision 2030 and supporting the development of local talent has been particularly rewarding - building sustainable capability together.
Outside of work, Riyadh has offered a lifestyle balance I truly value. My dog Bugzy has now joined me and the sunshine, community spirit and sense of opportunity have made this chapter incredibly fulfilling.
Being trusted to grow, collaborate and contribute to something bigger than myself makes this journey meaningful.
