Kenny built his career in project management by developing a broad set of skills, working across teams and contributing to projects that have real world impact.

I was first drawn to BAE Systems because of its strong presence and reputation where I grew up. Through school events and careers showcases, I became aware of the scale of the organisation and the important role it plays within aerospace and defence. Knowing that the work contributes to protecting the UK and its allies gave it a real sense of purpose, which stood out to me early on.

What made me apply was the opportunity to build my career through hands-on experience while being supported to learn and develop. Since joining, I’ve had the chance to work across different areas of the business while taking on varied projects and building a strong network. That mix of experience, continuous learning and seeing the real world impact of our work is what’s made me want to stay and keep progressing.

In my role, I really value the variety that project management brings. No two days are the same and I have the opportunity to work with people across a wide range of teams and disciplines. It’s rewarding to see how different roles and skills come together to deliver something meaningful and to play a part in bringing that together.

What makes this role so rewarding is the people - feeling supported, trusted and able to keep developing while contributing to something with real purpose.

What I enjoy most about my role is working with others to solve problems and keep things moving forward. There’s a real sense of teamwork, where people are always willing to share their knowledge and support each other. That environment makes it easier to build confidence, ask questions and continue developing. The opportunity to learn new skills, apply best practices and see the positive impact of solutions is what keeps the role engaging.

I’ve also had the chance to broaden my experience through different placements and secondments, which has helped me understand how the wider organisation operates. Working in different environments and alongside new teams has built both my confidence and my ability to adapt.

Being part of a global organisation adds another layer to that experience. I work with people from different backgrounds and perspectives, which brings fresh ideas and ways of thinking. It also reinforces the importance of the work we do, knowing it supports customers and operations around the world.

Being part of an environment where I’m supported to grow, encouraged to keep learning and trusted to contribute is what makes this journey so fulfilling.
