Applications for our apprentice programs usually open around August each year and remain open for about a month. Please read each job advertisement carefully and follow the instructions to apply for the role you are interested in.

Most apprenticeship applications are submitted via our careers website. We also work with the following trusted partners who specialise in apprentice recruitment and training:

• HunterNet – for roles in New South Wales
• MGET – for roles in Western Australia

To apply, you will need to be an Australian citizen and eligible for Australian defence security clearance.

Depending on the demand of different projects across our business, we may announce extra apprenticeship opportunities at other times of the year. Expressions of interest are open year-round – sign up and you’ll be the first to know when applications open.

Once we receive your application, there’s a few steps involved which take time to work through.

• Step 1: Application review

We’ll read your application and check out your school and work history including any work experience you have completed. We will look for any interesting activities you do outside of work and study that demonstrate your personal attributes. We will also consider why you want to join our team and what qualities you can bring to our workplace.

• Step 2: Phone interview

A recruitment specialist may give you a call to discuss our apprenticeship opportunities in more detail. They may ask questions to learn more about why you want to do an apprenticeship, and what skills and personal qualities you will bring to the role. While this is not a formal interview, it is your chance to shine a light on your unique personality and what you can bring to our team.

• Step 3: Assessment centre

If we get a good vibe from you on the phone, you'll be invited to an ‘assessment centre’. You'll get to join in on a bunch of fun activities, both solo and in groups. These tasks are designed to show off your teamwork, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills. If you do well, you'll move on to a face-to-face interview.

• Step 4: Interview

Keep impressing us and you’ll score an invitation to an in-person interview. Prepare to go into more detail about how your skills, experiences and personal qualities make you the perfect person to join us as an apprentice. You’ll also get an opportunity to ask us any questions you have about the role.

• Step 5: Background checks and offer of employment

Once you've amazed us, it's time to ensure we’ll be a perfect match. This step involves a detailed background check to make sure that you will meet our security clearance requirements. It's a simple way for us to confirm all the information you've provided and to ensure that everything aligns with our values and requirements. You may receive a conditional offer of employment here too. This means we offer you an apprenticeship position, as long as your background and security checks are completed and come back all clear.

Our aim is to finalise the process and have your contract of employment signed, sealed, and delivered by the end of the year.
